Halfie Update: Weeks 5 and 6: Halfway there!

I can't believe I'm already halfway there! Another 6 weeks and it'll be time to run the half-marathon! I don't have too much to update... It's been the same over the past two weeks: super icy roads, cold weather and an injured knee.
For the icy roads, I've been using those cleats you can strap on to your shoes, and they've been amazing! It's not fool-proof, of course, but it's been helping a lot. As for my knee... ice, ice, ice!

Yesterday I went for an evening run (I was a little too hungover to run first thing in the morning... oops!) and though it was a little colder, and I couldn't finish my run because of my knee, I really enjoyed running along a beautiful sunset.

Up to now, I have run about 78 miles! My cardio endurance is much better, my body is leaner and I can't wait to run some more!

Saint Patrick's Day

Last night I went out for Saint Patrick's Day, which is something I've never done before. I went to the King's Head pub to have a beer or two with my friends Jessica and Miranda and watch the Dust Rhinos live! I even won a Guiness t-shirt that the band was throwing in the crowd!

All in all it was a great night. I haven't had this much fun in a while! Happy Saint Patrick's Day. :)

Halfie Update: Weeks 3 and 4: Can I Get a Refund?

In my last update, I talked about shin splints. Well, I'm happy to say that they are almost completely gone! Thanks to the athletic therapy, countless massages and my new shoes, I can walk again! Except that now... it's my knees. I seem to have the worst luck when it comes to this stuff. I always have an injury of some sort! Can I get a refund on these legs?

I've been icing my knee every day, and it's slowly getting better. Hopefully I'll be able to do my long run this weekend without too much trouble.

On the bright side, things are finally warming up around here! I have now run a total of about 52 miles and have already lost about 5 pounds. Only 8 weeks to go before the big day!

Running App:
When I run outside, I use my phone as an iPod and use the Nike Running app to calculate how long and how far I've run. I absolutely love this app! It gives you badges for your fastest runs, farthest runs, fastest 5k, etc. You can also compare to previous runs, and even set up a voice feedback for every .5 miles, every mile or whatever you decide. You can also make a playlist and choose power songs... And the best part? It's free!
What's your favourite running/workout app?

I CUT MY HAIR!

I haven't cut my hair in... 6 or 7 years? AH!
I had been wanting to cut it for a while... My hair is so thin and brittle that it breaks in no time and the longer it is, the worse it gets, so finally, I just chopped it all off and I'm SO happy with it!

What if Anne Frank Had Survived?

Tuesday I went to see a play called The Secret Annex put on by the Manitoba Theatre Centre. The premise of the play revolves around what would have happened if Anne Frank had lived.  25 year old Anne Frank is living in New York City, trying to sell her book, based on her diary.

Throughout the entire play, you feel kind of odd.. It's a hard feeling to describe, watching the life someone could have had if they hadn't died a tragic death.
The editor tells Anne over and over that there's something missing to her book. It makes you wonder if the Diary of Anne Frank would have been such an important book if she hadn't died. Would it have had the same impact?
Anne also talks about her survivor's guilt, the "why me?" speech. She defines herself by her tragedy and she can't let go of it. So many of us define ourselves by the bad things that happen to us

The whole thing is just completely heart-breaking and mind-boggling. I left the theatre with tears in my eyes.
It's taken me a few days to process this play... Those are always the best kind.
