Halfie Update #3: Weeks 9-16

Whoa! I haven't posed anything in waaaaay too long! I've been insanely busy with school, work and training and blogging has taken a hit. But I am back and I have a ton of things to post!

Let's start with half-marathon training! I trained for 16 weeks for the Berlin Half-marathon and even though I ran a lot less than I felt like I should be, I had a really great race! I was so busy with school that I didn't train as hard as I could have, and the weather was changing drastically, so that also didn't help. But enough with excuses!
Trail running this winter is basically all I've done and I really enjoy it. The crunch of the snow, the fresh air, the lack of people and dogs, and the "you ran in THIS weather?!"s are always nice! I can't say I will really miss it though... I'm ready for summer!
A couple of weeks before I was leaving for Germany, I started feeling like I was getting those same calf injuries as last year, and got nervous, but it went away really quickly and I before I knew it, I was  picking up my bib number in Berlin!
In total, I ran 113.58 miles (182.78 km) to train for this half-marathon, and every single one of these miles were ran during the winter. Now summer's here and I've already started training for my next half-marathon!

Halfie Update #2 - Weeks 5-8

I can't believe I've been training for 8 weeks already! Although I do have to admit I've been slacking off quite a bit....
While I should be running 3-4 times a week, I've only been running twice a week. It's not the end of the world, but I definitely feel like I should be running a lot more.

So far, I've been really lucky and haven't had any injuries (KNOCK ON WOOD!) compared to last year, and maybe that's because I'm not training as hard. Last year, I went from a total couch potato to running a half marathon in just a few months and I think that taking it easier this year is to my advantage. Plus I completely and honestly believe that I will finish this half-marathon and not feel like I died a million times over those 13.1 miles. I mean, I'll be in Berlin, so how bad could it really be?!

Also, last week I broke my record for fastest mile at 8'29 minutes, which is kind of amazing to me! I didn't even realize I was running that was, especially considering I was running on the ice trail on the river. That run was an average of 9'57 minute/mile, while last year I was averaging about 13'30 minute/miles. That's an improvement of almost 4 minutes! It may not seem like much, but 4 minutes is HUGE!

So far, I ran 64.87 miles (104.39 km) and I can't wait to beat more records! Only 45 days till Berlin!

Behind the Scenes: Party!

Since the beginning of September, I've been working in my Filmmaking class to make my final film project. It's meant to be about 20-30 minutes long, and is worth about 60% of my final grade.
This movie is a party movie: it follows Jenny and Emma, who are hosting a party and all kinds of things happen, a fight breaks out, someone is throwing up in the bathroom and maybe even a little bit of relationship drama.

We finished filming last week and it was a blast! I definitely have to thank my actors for spending so much time working on this and being so patient with me (I'm not exactly the best director...). We got a lot of great scenes and tons of hilarious bloopers, and some that we didn't get to film, like when one of our actors face-planted while we were rehearsing!

Now I just started editing and there is so much work to be done. I can't wait for everyone to see the final product!

"You weren't being over sensitive. He was being over asshole."

Girls, I have a problem and I believe this needs to be discussed a lot more.
We are constantly told that we, us girls, are always being over sensitive, that we're always making a big deal out of nothing and to "just calm down". I have a problem with this, because this isn't always the truth. Yes, we all have our moments (often because of PMS) where we go a little crazy and cry for no reason, but the majority of the time, we have every right to be "over sensitive."

Doesn't she just have the best quotes sometimes?
via

If your boyfriend cheated on you and you want to rip his head off, are you being over sensitive?
If your boyfriend has been ignoring you for the last few days and you're upset, are you being over sensitive?
If someone (friend or otherwise) has stood you up and you're angry, are you being over sensitive?
If someone insults you by accident (or on purpose) and it bothers you, are you being over sensitive?
If you watch The Notebook and wish you had a romance like that or even cried a little, are you being over sensitive?

NO.

You're just being a human being. Boys get "over sensitive" too, but we just say they're full of testosterone. How is that any different from us? We're human. We have feelings and we express them. It's what makes us who we are.

Yes, girls usually express their feelings more than guys, but that doesn't make us over sensitive. Sometimes he was just being over asshole.

Yet we take the blame.

We care. So what? Is it so wrong that we show that we care? I think the world would be a lot sadder if we all stopped showing others that we care about them, don't you think?

Girls, stop letting people tell you you're over sensitive. You have every right to be hurt, or happy, or pissed off when someone does something wrong to you. They were just being over asshole.

Halfie Update #1: Weeks 1-4

There it is! The first month of training done. That went by so insanely fast, I can't even believe it! I am three months away from running the Berlin Half-marathon!!

I have been extremely lucky, in that the temperature has been absolutely wonderful and it's only now getting to stupidly cold temperatures, and I do have to admit that I didn't run at all last week because I managed to get the flu, which kicked my butt so much harder than I could have expected. It gave me a nice little break during the holidays, and I'm ready to get back in gear!

This month, I've gotten new running gear, and re-learned how to run outside in the cold again. I haven't exactly been keeping up with my schedule, but I've been on holidays all month, and quite lazy... I have a lot to catch up on.

So far, I ran 26.77 miles (43.08km), and I honestly can't wait to run more! 82 days till Berlin!
